Business Development Manager – Cambridge, Canada

As part of our continued growth, we’re looking for a strategic and results-driven Business Development Manager to join our Sales team in Canada. This is a high-impact role focused on expanding our presence within the Defence sector, working with both enterprise and SME customers.

You’ll be responsible for identifying, developing, and closing high-value opportunities, bringing a consultative mindset and a sharp commercial edge to every engagement. While deep technical expertise isn’t required, you’ll need to quickly immerse yourself in our capabilities and services to confidently communicate the value and relevance of our solutions. Your ability to translate complex customer needs into customised technology offerings will be key to your success.

This role demands strong relationship-building skills. You’ll be expected to uncover new opportunities through insight-led conversations and deliver compelling proposals that demonstrate our value proposition.

This is a full-time, field-based position, reporting into our Cambridge, Ontario office.

 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute sales prospecting and customer targeting plans.
  • Build and manage a pipeline of qualified prospects through cold calling, referrals, and networking.
  • Lead key account development plans to grow revenue and deepen customer engagement.
  • Prepare persuasive proposals and quotations in collaboration with technical and commercial teams.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records (HubSpot) and provide regular sales forecasts.
  • Representing Captec at industry events and networking opportunities.
  • Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and margin targets.

 

 

Required Experience & Skillset:
  • 3+ years of experience selling technology solutions to relevant stakeholders in the Defence sector is a must. Additional experience in healthcare, automation, transportation, energy, or communications considered an asset.
  • Experience in initiating and converting cold leads to opportunities.
  • Proven track record of closing high-value contracts with large SME and Enterprise customers.
  • Strong consultative and solution-oriented skills enabling identification of new opportunities.
  • Experience in major project deployments and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

Head of Engineering – Fareham, UK

We have an opening for a leadership role in managing our engineering design department. The position of Head of Engineering reports directly to the COO and leads a multi-disciplinary technical team of engineers and technicians.

The successful candidate we are seeking should have had a career progression spanning a technical specialist role in ideally an electro-mechanical engineering design discipline or with a bias on mechanical or electrical/electronics. In addition, the candidate must have proven experience managing the whole spectrum of product development and realisation, including project management, design, V&V, certification where appropriate, orderly production handover into manufacturing, and lifecycle management.

We are looking for a proven people-manager with experience of managing a multi-disciplinary engineering technical team. An individual with a robust character willing and eager to take on technical challenges and work within set time and budget constraints. Strong project management capabilities and the ability to implement appropriate remedial measures, as and when appropriate, are required.

Leadership and motivational skills are key requirements in this role. The successful candidate would need to be an effective communicator able to establish and cultivate good relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders. A thorough, disciplined, and detailed style of working will be necessary with a logical and detailed analysis of requirements and processes. A detailed approach towards on-time/on-budget milestone delivery is an important requirement for successful performance.

This position requires candidates who can maintain a high work rate and who are discontented with merely maintaining the status quo. Candidates who are always looking for new and better ways of doing things will be welcomed and valued in this role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Management responsibility for the primary engineering department’s functions of Design and Innovation (Mechanical, Electro-mechanical, Electronic) functions.
  • Management, workflow planning, scheduling and review of work and deliver defined milestones to business stakeholders.
  • Participation in setting the departmental budget and managing to budget with monthly/ quarterly and annual reviews.
  • Management of technical involvement of multiple projects with regular review and management, involvement of design reviews and involvement of V&V.
  • Actively involved in new and existing product lifecycle management.
  • Oversee design reviews and ensure designs are optimised.
  • Fully responsible for the engineering processes within the company.

 

Required Experience & Skillset:
  • Currently, be in a management leadership role with a minimum of 5+ years track record.
  • Proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary technical teams with a blended mix of mechanical, electro/mechanical, computer configuration/integration and electronics.
  • Experienced budget setter/holder with responsibility for managing an assigned budget.
  • Sector experience working in one or more of the following industries: Defence, Automation, Medical equipment, Transport, Energy, or Communications would be preferable.
  • Experience with understanding and managing product design to meet compliance & certification as required to international standards e.g. CE, FCC, 60945, DNV-2.4, MIL-STD-810, etc.
  • Customer/market-facing, consultative / solution-orientated technical experience in an industrial B2B market sector with a good degree of engineering, computing, or technology-related subject expertise.
